Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA)

The Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA) is the national professional body representing teachers of English to speakers of other languages in Australia. It coordinates TESOL representation at national and international levels, in conjunction with the state and territory TESOL Associations. Representatives of these Associations form the ACTA Council. TasTESOL’s president and ACTA councillor participate in national telephone hookups with the other ACTA council members throughout the year, and participate in an annual face-to-face workshop where directions for the coming year are set.

Through ACTA, TasTESOL is represented on national working parties and we are invited to contribute our views to all ACTA submissions and other advocacy activities.

In addition to its crucial advocacy role, ACTA publishes the peer-reviewed journal TESOL in Context, disseminates updates on resources to members and organizes regular national conferences in partnership with the member organizations. Through its affiliation with TESOL International, ACTA also keeps the member associations informed of ESL developments throughout the world.
